Dr. Graeme Mindel originates from Johannesburg, South Africa. He attended the University of The Witwatersrand Medical School and graduated in December of 1992. He completed his combined Internship in General Medicine and Surgery at the Helen Joseph Hospital in Johannesburg followed by one year of specialization at the Johannesburg General Hospital.
Dr. Mindel then spent a year as a locum tenens in a private London hospital before completing a year as a Senior House Officer in the Renal Division at Guy’s and St. Thomas Hospital in London, England - affiliated with King’s College London.
In 1996 he moved to the United States where he completed his Internship and Residency in General Medicine at Washington University and Barnes Jewish Hospital. Dr. Mindel also served as Chief Resident at the John Cochrane Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He then trained as a Renal Fellow at Barnes Jewish Hospital and joined the faculty of Washington University in 2001.
His awards include the Trevor Knowlton Award of Teaching Excellence, the Michael Rich Award for teaching and the Renal Fellow Award for teaching excellence. Dr. Mindel is the author of original manuscripts and several book chapters pertaining to the discipline of nephrology. He has been a board certified nephrologist since 2003.
In 2005 Dr. Mindel left the university setting to pursue a career in private practice. He is a founding member, owner and full partner in his current practice.
He has a passion for and interest in all aspects of kidney disease, hypertension, dialysis and transplant.
He is married with a son and when not working his interests include exercise, sports, travel and reading.
